Gold Vermeil Plating
What Is Vermeil Gold
Vermeil ( pronounced “ver-may”) jewellery is made from a base of sterling silver that has then been gold plated with a thicker coating, often as much as 50% thicker than a traditional gold-plated piece. This method is often used for jewellery, tableware or fine pieces of home decor. Vermeil is a good choice for those with allergies to normal, plated jewellery items. To the naked eye, it looks just like pure gold but is less expensive and can be shined up to a gloss, or left to tarnish for a more vintage look. Also Vermeil Plating will wear off after time and would have to be handled with care.

Downsides & Life Plated Jewellery
For starters, the vermeil plating that covers your jewellery will inevitably wear away. If you are comfortable with the thought that the plating will wear away at some point, you should also know that it’s hard to predict when this will happen. Some customers have reported fading just after 2 months and others have had their items for over 12 months and still looking good. We can’t guarantee the time it will take to fade as each person will wear their jewellery differently. However, hands tend to be in contact with a lot of chemicals during the day. We therefore suggest to strictly follow below points to make sure your plating won’t wear off too quickly.
When to Buy Gold Vermeil Jewellery
If you are looking for a piece of jewellery you intend to wear occasionally then plated jewellery is your most affordable option. If you would like to avoid any skin reactions or skin marks left on your skin while wearing, then Gold vermeil should not only be Silvery’s choice but also yours. However, if you are sure that you will wear it all the time, it may be a good idea to pick something more solid as in this case, a vermeil piece would wear away very quickly.
Things To Avoid
Perfumes, creams, lotions, and makeup all contain substances than can affect plated and vermeil jewellery. Some soaps and detergents are stronger and harsher than others. Certain fruits and vegetables are acidic. Some are more alkaline.
